Report on 5th REAAA Business Forum
The objective of REAAA Business Forums is to facilitate road sector business-to-business collaboration in the road engineering or related sectors and to enhance membership of REAAA from business persons, institutions or companies. The forums are held in conjunction with REAAA Council Meetings or Conferences.
The first three Business Forums were held in Bali in April 2014 (theme: ‘Public Private Partnerships’), Sydney in October 2014 (theme: ‘Road Technology Support and Products Related to Road Projects’) and Tokyo in November 2016, which included a field visit to the Japan Highway Techno Fair 2016. They were very successful in facilitating business cooperation.
The 4th Business Forum was held in Bali on 23rd March 2017. It was organized by an ad hoc Committee chaired by Mr Destiawan Soewardjono, the CEO of PT Wijaya Karya Persero, Tbk. The theme for the 4th Business Forum was ‘Expanding Opportunities for Infrastructure Investment in Developing Countries’ which featured by prominent speakers from many countries. About 100 delegates attended the Forum.
The 5th REAAA Business Forum was held in Manila, Philippines, on 21 July 2017 to coincide with the 15th REAAA Conference and other associated events, including the 107th Governing Council meeting. The event was hosted by the Road Engineering Association of the Philippines (REAP) and the REAAA Philippine Chapter, which is chaired by Mr Mariano R Alquiza, the 2nd Vice President of REAP. The theme for the Business Forum was ‘Golden Era of Infrastructure Development in Philippines…: build…., build…, build…..’. About 80 delegates attended the Forum, including the new President of REAAA, Mr Romeo S Momo.

Nonon Wardhani

Dr. Ir. Achmad Hermanto Dardak M.Sc.,

President of REAAA (2013 – 2017)

Born in Trenggalek, 9th January 1957, Dr. Hermanto Dardak received his undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from Bandung Institute of Technology, Bandung, Indonesia on 1980. He then received his postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering from University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia on 1985. Thereafter, he received his Doctorate degree in Economic Transportation from University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia on 1990.
Dr. Dardak has an extensive track record. He was an Expert to the Minister on Autonomy and Synergy in Regional Development, Ministry of Human Settlement and Regional Infrastructure in 2003 until 2005. He then served as Director General of Spatial Planning, Ministry of Public Works, Republic of Indonesia from 2005 to 2007. Afterward, he served as Director General of Highways, Ministry of Public Works of the Republic of Indonesia for the period of 2007 to 2009 before appointed as the Vice Minister of Public Works, Republic of Indonesia on 2010.
Dr. Hermanto Dardak involves in several organization such as vice president of PII (Persatuan Insinyur Indonesia), Indonesian Union of Engineer, Honorary Chairman of IRDA (Indonesian Road Development Association). He is appointed as the President of REAAA from 2013 to 2017.

H.E. Dr. Basuki Hadimuljono is the Minister of Public Works and Housing, Republic of Indonesia. Born in Solo on 5th November 1954, Dr. Hadimuljono received his undergraduate degree in Geological Engineering from Gajah Mada University in Yogyakarta on 1979. He then received his Master’s and Doctoral degrees in Civil Engineering from Colorado State University, USA, majoring in irrigation.
Dr. Hadimuljono has an extensive track record in the Public Works Ministry. He started his career at the top management level as the Director General of Water Resources in the Ministry of Human Settlement and Regional Infrastructure from 2003 to 2005. Afterward, he served as the Director General for Research and Development in the Ministry of Public Works in 2005 – 2007. He was later appointed as Inspector General of the Public Works Ministry for the period of 2007 to 2013. Thereafter, he served as the Director General of Spatial Planning before being sworn as the Minister of Public Works and Housing of the Republic of Indonesia by President Joko Widodo on 27th October 2014.

Theme “New Technologies on Road Construction”


  • 3rd   REAAA Business Forum was held in Tokyo, Japan on 1st November 2016
  • Organized by Express Highway Research Foundation (EHRF)
  • The chairman of 3rd REAAA Business Forum was Mr Hashiba Katsuji
  • About the 3rd Business Forum :
    • At the previous Governing Council Meeting in Tokyo, Japan, there had been an increasing support for the 3rd REAAA’s Business Forum from country members. This can be seen by the number of delegates attending 3rd REAAA’s BF which was held in Tokyo, Ariake, on 1st November 2016, hosted by the Japan Road Association, and supported by the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT). There were about 200 delegates participating in half day event, including the field visit to Japan Highway Techno Fair 2016.

    • Seven presentations under the theme of “New Technologies on Road Construction” were presented:
      1. “History and Pavement Technology of the porous asphalt mixture”
      2. “Application of New Steel Technologies to Bridge Construction in Urban Areas”
      3. “Development and Construction of High-Durable Bridge”
      4. “New Technology of Maintenance for Expressway”
      5. “Utilization of Big Data for Road Planning and Management in Japan”
      6. “Global Latest Developments of Road User Charging”
      7. “Traffic Management System”
    • Many delegates have expressed their positive comments regarding the Forum and they were requesting the presentation materials and the presenters’ contact to be made available for future correspondence. There have been lots of interactions ever since which can potentially be end in business arrangements between business entities.

Theme “Improving Road Engineering Collaboration and Market Access and Upcoming Opportunities”


  • 2nd   REAAA Business Forum was held in Sydney, Australia on 23rd October 2014 (in conjunction with 100th REAAA Council Meeting).
  • Organized by REAAA Australian Chapter
  • The Chairman of 2nd REAAA Business Forum was Mr. Brendan Marsh
  • About 2nd REAAA Business Forum :
    • Around 70 participants took part in a half day event which consist of several classroom presentations.
    • Speakers representing the Department of Highways, Indonesia, Roads Australia, Stabilized Pavements Group and PT Performa Alam Lestari Indonesia, shared their experience with members.
  • Following the successful conduct of this event, it was agreed that Business Forums should be held in conjunction with future Council Meetings where feasible.

Theme “Public Private Partnerships”


  • 1st   REAAA Business Forum was held in Bali, Indonesia on 22nd April 2014 (in conjunction with 99th REAAA Council Meeting)
  • Organized by Indonesia Business Forum Committee
  • The Chairman of 1st REAAA Business Forum was Mr. Sutopo Kristanto, President Director PT Jaya Konstruksi Manggala Pratama , Tbk.
  • About 1st REAAA Business Forum :
    • It was a one-day event consisted of business presentations and one to one meetings
    • Around 70 business persons attended this forum
    • Result from this Forums were :
      1. the signings of Three Memorandum of Understandings between:
        • PT Jasamarga (Persero) Tbk with West NEXCO and Japan Expressway Company Limited (JEXWAY) Japan.
        • PT Jasamarga (Persero) Tbk with POSCO Engineering & Construction Korea;
        • PT Jasamarga (Persero) Tbk with CMS Work International Limited Malaysia.
      2. Participants obtained information on attractive development projects being conducted by PT Jababeka Tbk, Tanjung Lesung Tourism Development, Kendal Industrial Estate and Banda Aceh Integrated Business Center.
      3. It was concluded that a specialized mission by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) Malaysia to Jakarta was organize so that further opportunities could be explored.
